Unique Hazards

Many regulatory and standards organizations require procedures to inform workers of any unique or unfamiliar hazards that they may encounter during procedure completion (OSHA 1910.119(f)(1)(iii)(E); EPA 40 CFR § 68.69, 1999; API RP 75 § 5.2, 2004).

Common practice is for workers to be informed of the impact of the hazards on materials, equipment, buildings, and the environment.

With this information, workers are:

  • Made aware of hazards they would not have known to expect during the procedure

Without this information, workers are:

  • Unable to perceive unfamiliar hazards
  • Unable to quickly and properly respond to unfamiliar hazards when they occur
