Action Step Step that gives a direct command to perform a specific action
Checklist A procedural attachment listing specific actions to be performed
Consistency Showing steady conformity to character or method
Corrective Designed to counteract something harmful or undesirable
Critical Having the potential to become disastrous
Danger Indicates hazards with severe consequences
Divergence A departure from the norm
Emergency A serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action
Hazard A potential source of harm or adverse health effects
Human Performance Comprised of three integrated elements of culture, equipment and processes, and performer attributes, which influences behavior so as to potentially affect safety and health
Job Aid A sign, worksheet or checklist that helps workers remember what to do
Level of Detail The technical detail necessary within a procedure step to successfully interface the individual user's knowledge to the technology being used or task being performed
Materials Supplies and equipment necessary to perform a particular task
Normal The usual, average, or typical state or condition
Operating Limits Set of established criteria beyond which a process should not be operated
Operating Procedure Document with instructions and associated information necessary for operations personnel to perform tasks in an incident-free manner while producing the desired product or output from the subject process or equipment
Operations The process or series of acts involved in a particular form of work
Pictogram A picture or symbol that represents a word or phrase
Place Keeper Used to help users track performance of steps within a procedure and involves physically marking steps in a procedure that have been completed or are not applicable
Prerequisite Something that is required as a prior condition for something else to happen
Preventative Designed to keep something undesirable such as incidents from occurring
Procedure A controlled document designed to improve human performance by clearly providing the purpose, specific intent, and sequenced direction for an activity, program, or process
Qualified Officially recognized as being trained to perform a particular job
Raw Material Material before being processed or manufactured into a final form
Readability The ease with which a reader can understand a written text
Regulation A rule or directive established and maintained by an authority
Risk The likelihood that a person may be harmed or suffer adverse health effects if exposed to a hazard
Safety System A system designed to minimize hazards
Shutdown The cessation or suspension of an operation, particularly as it relates to industrial processes
Stakeholder A party that has an interest in a company
Standard A criteria set for a particular task
Start-Up The act of setting in operation, particularly as it relates to industrial processes
Temporary Lasting for a limited time
