General Drafting Guidelines

Procedures are used to increase safety, efficiency, and consistency of human-systems interactions.

Procedures are required by many regulatory and standards agencies (Peres et al., 2016) and are typically used in situations in which:

  • The least experienced qualified worker would not be able to complete a given task correctly, consistently, and safely without instruction (Sasangohar et al., 2018; Peres, 2018)
  • The task is performed infrequently (Sasangohar et al., 2018; Peres, 2018)
  • The task has a sufficiently high risk level (Peres et al., 2016)

Worker adherence to procedures is directly correlated with the perceived quality of each procedure and the appropriate level of detail (Hendricks, et al., 2018).
