Raw Material Control

Health and safety considerations included within procedures must include information on raw material quality control and control of hazardous chemical inventory levels when chemicals are present at or above the specified threshold quantities (OSHA 1910.119(f)(1)(iii)(D); EPA 40 CFR § 68.69, 1999; API RP 75 § 5.2, 2004).

With this information, workers are:

  • Able to determine if the materials being used are the appropriate type and quality
  • Able to identify overlooked quality issues

Without this information, workers are:

  • Unable to determine if the product being used will cause the process to become unstable and hazardous
  • Unable to notice issues with the product before sending it on to a subsequent process
