Reminder Messages
Reminder messages (pop-ups) can be used to aid workers’ memory with digital devices.
There is little current guidance (either common practice or evidence-based) for any element of digital procedures. The following are based on general design principles for effective User Centered Design (Grudin and Pruitt, 1993).
Pop-ups can be beneficial when:
- User plans to take difficult-to-reverse actions with serious consequences
- A small amount of information must be provided before user proceeds to next step
- Emphasizing to user the content in an overlay
Information in pop-ups can include:
- Relevant information from hazard statements
- Operating limits and the time limit for a particular step
- Measurements to be taken
- PPE and other equipment that needs to be gathered at that point
