Material Location

Within the procedure, a list of materials needed for each task as well as their locations increases the likelihood of workers obtaining the proper materials (Hathaway and Dingus, 1992).

Guideline: Material List
Common practice is for materials necessary for each task and their locations to be listed as a preface at the beginning of the procedure, as well as within the procedure steps.

Support
Workers are more likely to collect the proper materials if it takes little to no time or effort (Hathaway and Dingus, 1992). Furthermore, some studies have found that workers often do not read the preface of procedures (Peres, 2018). Thus, necessary materials should be included within the procedure steps as well.
