Process/Equipment
For the equipment and process, operational demand must be taken into account.
This includes the quantity of material entering and exiting the unit as well as the size of the equipment.
The number of units for which the procedure is intended must be considered.
The operational demand can affect workers’ interactions with procedures and thus should be carefully considered in the development of the procedures.
- For equipment and processes with high operational demand, procedures should be developed taking into account the cognitive loads of workers and thus be as concise as possible.
- For example, use “Turn the valve one complete rotation” instead of “Rotate the valve around its center of gravity so that each outer point on the valve is rotated two radians.”
