Current Writer's Guides

Many of the current writer’s guides provide information regarding the content and format of procedures.

Underlying principles for guidelines are often based on expert judgement, internal reports, and incident investigations, rather than human performance research findings. The term “Common Practice” will be used for these guidelines.

Guidelines from Human Factors research can provide support for some existing writing standards and introduce additional critical ones. A reference providing evidence to support the guideline will be given for these guidelines.
